Wuchopperen Health Service Limited will hold its biannual Wellbeing and Kulture (WaK) Festival on Wednesday 11 April from 4 – 7 pm as part of Cairns Youth Week celebrations.
The multicultural youth festival will feature live music, dance performances, health and wellbeing information and activities and a free, healthy feed.
WaK Festival Coordinator Spencer Browne said WaK is Wuchopperen Health Service’s premier event for young people.
‘The WaK Youth Festival aims to bring youth of all cultures together as part of reconciliation in action.’
‘It is all about young people expressing themselves and enjoying dance, music, art and culture.’
‘WaK enables young people to engage in cultural activities and promotes healthy choices, culture and wellbeing.’
‘Youth will also be able to express themselves artistically on a giant graffiti wall, and there will be a free, healthy feed for everyone.’
‘Wuchopperen recognises that culture and community are vital to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, and the WaK Youth Festival celebrates all these things.’
The WaK 2018 line-up features hip-hop outfits Oistaboi, Cypher and Morganics, Torres Strait Islander dance troupe Erub Kebele and many more.
A range of organisations, including the Anti-Discrimination Commission, Queensland Police Service, Cairns Regional Council and Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs (ATODS) will also attend.
