Wuchopperen Launches Deadly Dads Playgroup

The Family Wellbeing Team at Wuchopperen Health Service Limited (Wuchopperen) has expanded the parenting programs on offer to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families through a new playgroup aimed at Dads and their children.

The playgroup runs on Wednesday mornings in the Children and Family Centre at Wuchopperen and will deliver an informal program on building healthy family relationships, connecting with your children and developing positive parenting strategies.

Family Wellbeing Worker, Michael Canuto says the program will be a safe space for Dads to share any issues they may be having and receive culturally safe support from the Family Wellbeing team.

“Being a parent comes with a whole new set of challenges and without a support network it can be a very overwhelming time. Having a space for men to come together and discuss what is happening with their children, but also with them as Dads, is essential in developing strong families.

We can work with Dads to develop their confidence as parents and have some fun while doing it. There is so much we can learn from our kids through play and we are excited to connect with Dads in our community,” says Michael.

The Family Wellbeing Workers throughout the playgroup will draw on the cultural knowledge and experience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander practitioners to help build happy, healthy, safe families.

The playgroups run on Wednesday mornings from 10am-12pm. Bookings are not required, and a free morning tea is provided to all attendees.
