Wuchopperen Health Service Limited celebrated its Community NAIDOC day on Wednesday July 11.
The free, family friendly, smoke, alcohol and drug free event featured Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander dance troupes, soul singer Rochelle Pitt, an outside broadcast by Bumma Bippera Media, community information stalls, plenty of activities for the kids and a free, healthy lunch.
Women’s, Children and Maternal Health Acting Manager Marion Norrie who coordinated the event, said it celebrated the 2018 NAIDOC theme ‘Because of her, we can.’
‘Wuchopperen has a great track record when it comes to female employees and female leadership,’ she said.
‘Our Chairperson and CEO and the majority of our Directors, Executive team and staff are all female.
‘Women have played, and continue to play, a significant role in this organisation, and we acknowledge them all.
‘Women play a special and respected role in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and we recognise their worth and contribution. At Wuchopperen, and across the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, we say ‘Because of her, we can.’
