Wuchopperen Celebrates Men’s Health Week

Wuchopperen Health Service Limited will celebrate Men’s Health Week (11 – 17 June) with a range of activities across Cairns.

Acting Men and Male Youth Health Manager Natalie Forbes said it was critical men took care of their own health by having regular check- ups with their GP.

‘GPs can check how you’re going physically, but also support you with social and emotional issues as well,’ Natalie said.

‘They are great first port of call, and are happy to provide referrals if you need one.

‘Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men have some of the worst health outcomes in this country, and we can help break that cycle by getting men to come in for a health check, and encouraging their sons, brothers, male relations and mates to do so too.

‘This Men’s Health Week we are asking men to come to the Men and Male Youth Health service in Manoora, or visit our Edmonton clinic and have a check-up with one of our friendly GPs.

‘We are especially pleased to be attending the AFL’s Indigenous Round ‘Dreamtime by the Sea’ at Holloways Beach on Saturday 16 June. Sport brings people together, and is a healthy and social way to have fun. We encourage everyone to be physically active, for about an hour a day, six to seven days per week, for optimum health.’
