Welcome to our new Deputy CEO Rachael Ham! With strong ties to the community, Rachael has an extensive background of working with community organisations including Lives Lived Well for the past five years and earlier with Apunipima Cape York Health Council. Rachael has also previously been a Wuchopperen Board Director and is the eldest daughter to Wuchopperen’s first Health Worker and a very long serving staffer, Eslyn Wargent. She is also the granddaughter of Esme Hudson, a well-known and hard-working identity and Elder of the Cairns area.
Rachael says, “I am very honoured to be taking on the role of DCEO here at Wuhopperen. I feel like I’m coming home in many ways, as I spent a good part of my life in and around the Wuchopperen clinics. It’s really exciting to see how much Wuchopperen has grown and to learn about all the deadly programs that are designed to support our people. The staff I have already met are inspiring and I can see their passion in what they’re doing for our community. I look forward to supporting and working with everyone!”
In her spare time, Rachael is a mother to two beautiful children and is Secretary for the North Cairns Tigers Football & Netball Club. We’ve heard she is also a bit of a star touch football player… our Wuchopperen touch team may now be in for a chance in 2021 season!
