Wuchopperen Health Service Presents at QATSICPP Conference in Toowoomba

A team from Wuchopperen Health Service’s Child and Family Services program travelled to Toowoomba this week to present on the CAFAKCS KIA data system and participate in a youth panel at the Queensland Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Child Protection Program (QATSICPP) conference.

The conference brought together a diverse range of stakeholders from across the sector to discuss issues related to child protection, delegated authority, and youth justice.

Wuchopperen’s presentation on the CAFAKCS KIA data system was met with great enthusiasm, sparking numerous questions and discussions among attendees.

The two-day conference provided invaluable opportunities to learn from other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community-Controlled organisations operating across Queensland.

Topics ranged from innovative programs and solutions in child protection and youth justice, to emerging approaches in domestic abuse intervention and the development of cultural programs like “Boys 2 Men” out on country.

Conference participants were inspired by powerful guest speakers, including Isaiah Dawe, who shared his remarkable personal journey. The youth-led Solid Voices Youth Council also contributed to discussions, offering fresh perspectives on the challenges facing young people in their communities.

In addition, various speakers and workshops highlighted the role of brain health and neuroscience in understanding and addressing issues within the sector.

The conference also featured an awards night, where Wuchopperen’s Family Wellbeing Worker, Jarrah Wymarra was nominated for an award. While Jarrah did not take home the award, the recognition on the night was testament to his outstanding contributions to the Cairns community and the sector.

Wuchopperen Health Service commends Jarrah for his dedication and commitment, with the belief that his time for recognition will come in the not-too-distant future.

Wuchopperen Health Service is committed to improving the wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities through innovative practices and collaboration. The insights gained from the QATSICPP conference will further enhance their programs and initiatives aimed at supporting families and youth.
