Marion Norrie Celebrates 30 Years

Marion Norrie hits a huge milestone today, celebrating 30 years of giving back to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community in the Cairns region through her employment at Wuchopperen Health Service.

In the last thirty years of her career Marion has shown dedication and commitment to achieving our organisational goal of Keeping Our Generations Growing Strong.

Starting in our Lake Street building in 1990, Marion joined our Dental team and progressed quickly to managing the team to deliver high quality and affordable dental care to our community. A key highlight in Marion’s extensive career with Wuchopperen was her role in the 2005 project, Filling the Gap – Indigenous Dental Program, whereby she was responsible for the volunteer dentists providing services at Wuchopperen.

With the success of the Dental Program under Marion’s leadership, we saw her undertake roles with the National Indigenous Oral Health Framework Development Committee, the Filling the Gap Steering Committee and become a member of the Oral Health Network.

While Dental held Marion’s heart, after a number of years in the team she was after a new challenge and took on a new position as Team Leader with Outreach Services and eventually moved into Clinic Floor Coordinator. During this time Marion also furthered her education studying a Diploma of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care.

Since 2017 Marion has managed both our Women’s, Children and Maternal Health and Holistic Health Clinics.

We thank Marion for her many years of service to Wuchopperen, we recognise the hard work Marion has put in over the last 30 years. She has seen many changes in the health landscape, Wuchopperen’s huge expansion and has played a key role in making Wuchopperen Health Service what it is today.

Thank you, Marion and congratulations from everyone at Wuchopperen.
