Eye Health at Edmonton Clinic

Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander people from Cairns’ south side can now access optometry services from Wuchopperen’s Edmonton Clinic.

The service has previously only been available from Wuchopperen’s Manoora facility.

Wuchopperen’s friendly optometrist Vicki Sheehan visits the Edmonton Clinic every second Monday to provide eye examinations and eye health advice.

Allied Health Services Coordinator Michelle Dougan said eye exams were free, quick, painless, and highly recommended, especially for people with Type 2 diabetes.

‘People can book an appointment to have an eye exam without a GP referral,’ she said.

‘If you have any concerns about your vision, or your child’s vision, don’t delay – please book an appointment today.’

‘We especially encourage those with Type 2 diabetes to come in and have a yarn with us – diabetes can cause blindness so it is vital diabetics stay on top of their eye health.’

‘If you want to see tomorrow, test your vision today.’

Ms Dougan said concession card holders may even be eligible for free glasses.

Optometry appointments are also available from Wuchopperen’s Manoora facility nine days a fortnight.

Please call the Edmonton Clinic to book your appointment on 4040 3100. Don’t forget to let the receptionist know if you need transport support.
